The April Egg Moon: Watercolor
an unknown conception, painted on a whim under the full moon.
This is an original watercolor, painted with moon water beneath the swollen full egg moon, of April 2025. The little branches were from the budding maple leaves of the maple tree outside of my window, stretching across that brilliant moon.
It is available as a print in my shop.
Usually, my watercolors accompany a poem, but this one does not. I had no words for the strange feeling. I didn't know it then, but I was very newly pregnant, my first and only pregnancy thus far, when I painted this. I recognize it is quite different from my usual poetry illustrations, and I have romantic, even nostalgic, feelings about this one. Nostalgic for a future past. Alas, you may know that the pregnancy ended in miscarriage. Yet I am glad to have known it; glad to have captured some of it onto paper.
When I did learn of the pregnancy; I captured my new feelings in another watercolor; depicting the sun in balance with the moon I painted here.
